I agree with everyone's comment here. You cant put years on being a "professional" trader. I know people who it took 3-5years and i know some who were successful in less than a year. Psychology also plays a huge role with your success rate.

Your trading objectives, the amount of time and effort you devote to trading, the trading tactics you adopt, and your prior experience will all influence your path to trading success. Whether you establish your tactics or use someone else's, it will most likely take you 6 to 12 months to develop enough consistency to start seeing regular monthly income (though this varies).

That is if you practice for several hours every day systematically. Many people will take longer; a year is not out of the question. Make sure you're financially prepared and don't give up other sources of money until your trading earnings are sufficient to support you. Even so, having numerous sources of income is usually a good idea.

i guess it just not depend to how long, but also to your psychology of trading. Long time but bad psychology i guess cannot be a professional.

It varies from trader to trader. Everyone trades differently. But one thing that defines your success is your learning attitude. If you regularly backtest and learn from your trades, then you will see that happen quickly.

@Zygosis I can’t agree more. To be a professional trader one needs to acquire proper skill sets and strong emotional balance. And this depends on the passion for learning a trader shows towards trading.

There is no particular time period that would make you a professional trader. It depends on how seriously you take it and what effort you put into the market towards learning and your ultimate trading goal. I have been trading for around 3 years and honestly, I don’t think that I have become a professional trader as of yet.

i think between 5 & 10 years if you make the path and search alone
and 1 -2 years with a good mentor (i mean a real mentor, not a videos seller)

Now for beginners, many forex brokers offer good educational courses. Is free. Yes, you will not become a trading pro. But you will know the basic laws of the market.
I trade in ForexChief and there are no such lessons here, but there are other companies where there are free lessons. I no longer need them, so I chose a broker only for trading.

Your success in the forex market is not time bound but effort bound. You will reap what you sow. If you keep expecting good results without putting in a good effort, you will stand stagnant.

Well, these are ordinary general phrases. What efforts must be applied? Sit 24 hours before schedule? . It will not benefit

It is not possible for anyone to tell the exact time that is required to be a professional trader.
To be a professional trader one should know that losses are inevitable and accept them. One should learn from them and try not to repeat the same mistake instead of quitting trading.
To learn and understand trading, sitting for 24 hrs is not required.
A slow, consistent and disciplined routine is needed to be a professional trader.

How many years do you need to trade to be a professional trader?
The best traders I know have spent at least 8-10 years learning and making mistakes before becoming a highly profitable trader! But most of those years now can be saved by 1-Having a profitable system above 51% with ultra low drawdown thats quantifiable 2- Using a Risk Model that has 5:1 RR 3-Mastering Emotional and psychology elements of trading

I would single out only the last point. The rest is all subjective. I would single out only the last point. The rest is all subjective.

Well, there is no definite answer to it. Forex trading is a journey, where learning never stops. Your success directly depends on your hard work and risk appetite. You have to be consistent with trading and should keep a positive learning attitude.
