It is a really old school stuff, doubt that it still works. Modern approaches require more skills you will probably need to automate your strategy to gain edge.
Even though modern problems require modern solutions, one still needs to clear his basic concepts. And FYI these books do work. Opting for books is a matter of choice and comfort. All the educational material developed is based on these books.

Well, personally I have only read one book about forex trading - Trading in The Zone, written by Mark Doughlas, in the year 2000. It contains all information about price actions, candlesticks, strategies, time zones, everything you need. This book is a real gem, I’ll recommend this to all!

You may gain so much from books and lay a solid foundation for your further growth as a forex trader. Reading good books not only enhances the knowledge but also helps in developing your skills. Benefits of Using Price Action Within Your Trading Strategy by Vin Castillo is the book I used to read when I was learning about price action. With proper knowledge of price action and use of candlesticks, you can recognise trends, breakouts, and profitable reversals.
