Backtesting is a critical step in verifying any trading strategy. What tools or platforms do you use for backtesting your forex strategies? How much historical data do you test against, and what are your criteria for determining whether a strategy is robust enough for live trading?

Backtesting is necessary when trying a new trading system, but backtesting results that use past historical data do not guarantee that they will be the same as the future, only that they can minimize the risk of trading system failure.

Backtesting Forex strategies involves using historical data to evaluate a trading strategy's performance. Common tools include MetaTrader 4/5, TradingView, and other platforms offering backtesting features. Traders use methods like automated testing with Expert Advisors (EAs), manual testing, and statistical analysis to assess strategy viability. Key factors to consider are risk management, position sizing, and market conditions. Consistent backtesting helps refine strategies and improves future trading decisions.

For backtesting Forex strategies, I use tools like TradingView and NinjaTrader. I test strategies using at least 3-5 years of historical data to ensure they perform across various market conditions. A strategy is considered robust if it shows consistent returns, low drawdowns, and adaptability across different pairs and timeframes.

I used MT4 to test my strategy. But it is important to understand that the market is constantly changing and does not guarantee that the same price movements will be in the future, so in trading it is very important to be able to minimize risks when trading any tested strategy.
