Yes, one can profit, but actually learning to do so properly takes a long time and effort, and often, money that you lose until you are learning.

You can definitely make a leaving from trading forex but it will take a lot of time to be able to. From the mentors i had and from my experience it will take arund 1 to 3 years to be consistant and be able to be a full time trader. Don't listen to the people will say it can take a few months couse it simply not going to happens. People that actually saying that are not doing this for long enough. Trading is NOT a quick get rich scheme. Proper risk management and having a plan takes time. Most new traders quit after first 2 years. Good luck
